Midget AAA Firestarter Weekend

September 12-15, 2019

Tournament Rules

  • We will follow Hockey Canada Regulations. Players and coaches may be subject to additional penalties by their governing body.
  • All decisions made by the officials on ice or by the FireStarter Tournament Committee are final.
  • Teams will be responsible for any damages caused to dressing rooms or facilities.
  • It is each teams responsibility to ensure the dressing rooms doors are locked, the facility is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • For Sunday games the tournament reserves the right to change the order of games to assist teams with travel plans. Teams will be notified Saturday evening their play times for Sunday as well as update posted on the Calgary Fire website and Calgary AAA Fire Twitter account.
  • Mimum Suspension Guidelines

Game Format

  • Tournament will be a four game guarantee, with the two top-point teams playing in the final on Sunday.
  • All games consist of 3 (20-20-20) stop time periods. Ice will be cleaned between each period. Due to time restrictions, the national anthem will not be played before games.
  • 5 minute warm up begins immediately following ice cleaning. At conclusion of warm up teams must line up to play immediately or risk delay of game penalty.
  • Designated home teams will wear light coloured jerseys and visiting will wear dark.
  • Timeouts are allowed in final game only, each team is allowed one 30 sec time out.

Standings Will Be Determined By:

  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a tie
  • 0 point for a loss
  • Point Tie Breakers in order:
    1) number of wins
    2) goals for minus goals against in round robin
    3) fewest goals allowed in round robin play
    4) first goal in round robin play
    5) flip of a coin

Overtime and Shootouts

  • Overtime will only be used to determine the winner of the A Final game.
  • If tied at the end of regulation, will play 5 min stop time OT, 4 on 4 sudden victory.
  • If still tied will proceed to shoot-out, each team will select 3 players for round one.
  • Players serving penalties that do not expire prior to the end of OT will not be eligible to shoot in the shoot-out
  • Visiting team will shoot first, then teams will alternate shooters until a winning team is determined or until all three shooters from both teams have shot
  • If at the end of round one the score is still tied each team will alternate one shooter each until a winner is declared.
  • Players can only shoot once until all players on their bench have shot. This rule also applies to the first 3 shooters.
